Next Friday is Fruity Friday

By David + May 19th, 2007

Fruity Friday aims to encourage people to eat more fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy lifestyle. It also raises money for WCRF to fund our cancer prevention research and education programmes.

Organisations across the country will be getting involved, with companies laying on fruity breakfasts for employees and schoolchildren …

Orchards for Schools

By Sarah Cabral + September 9th, 2006

Following on from David’s post about school lunches, Jamie Oliver is in the news again, he has now called on the government to introduce compulsory cookery lessons in schools.

He told The Sun:
“Here’s what I propose – compulsory cooking lessons for all schoolchildren from primary school up to 16. One of my dreams is for all of our kids to be able to cook their children a lovely roast because they’ve been taught in school and know about good, wholesome ingredients.”
I remember cookery lessons at school, (or home economics as it was called then), and I thoroughly enjoyed them! I come from a very foodie background, so maybe I’m lucky but I have to agree with Jamie, it’s really is important to know how to cook and how to feed yourself properly from an early age. When I was at university, I had a housemate who would regularly horrify me with her food choices – eating tuna out of the can sprinkled with cayenne pepper was a particular favourite of hers – not mine I’d like to add!!

Food Wallpaper: Oranges

By David + September 5th, 2006

The first in our regular series of food wallpapers has just been finished and I am really pleased with how it looks. As this is an exciting occasion I decided to use bright vibrant oranges to give everyone a smile and to try and keep what is left of the summer in our minds.

You can always find the latest wallpapers that we create in the wallpapers section (suprisingly) and are free to use them on as many computers as you feel the need. If there is anyone that would like to see larger sizes or other types of food pictured then just drop us a line and we will get something together for you.

Enjoy the first wallpaper and be sure to subscribe to our feed at the bottom of the page to be told when more are released into the wild. So, without further a do, here is the first wallpaper simply entitled “Orange” …

Smoothies for Smoothie Haters!

By David + September 4th, 2006

If you are like me you love the idea of a smoothie and everything that can be crammed into it, but you simply can’t stomach the texture and ‘bits’ that you have to try and slurp your way through to get the goodness into you.

I have tried making my own, I have tried changing the ingredients incase it was certain fruits such as the stringy bits of Bananas that were the problem, you have probably bought a countless number of ready made smoothies in the hope that the latest smoothie purchase will be the miracle one that you can actually drink without wanting to give it straight back.

If all of this rings true and you are still yearning to get a smoothie inside you, I may have just the solution based on a really simple idea that struck me the other day, and since then I can drink almost any type of smoothie I want without having to pull a horrid face and put the glass back down.
